Bringing the Metaorganism to school: „Messe der beruflichen Möglichkeiten. Lehrerberuf Plus: Chancen und Perspektiven für Lehrkräfte“

CRC 1182 presented educational material on metaorganism research
On Saturday, the 8th of March, the CRC participated in the event “Messe der beruflichen Möglichkeiten Lehrerberuf Plus: Chancen und Perspektiven für Lehrkräfte” [Career Opportunities Fair – Teaching Profession Plus: Opportunities and Perspectives for Teachers]. The event, organized by the “Institut für Qualitätsentwicklung an Schulen Schleswig-Holstein (IQSH)“, aimed at showing different career opportunities and thereby demonstrating how diverse and fulfilling the teaching profession can be. “Events like this can show how teachers can develop professionally and engage in various ways beyond their daily classroom routines, e.g. in projects together with the IPN, Kiel University or the Kieler Forschungswerkstatt”, says Ilka Parchmann, head of the Chemistry Education at the IPN.

The CRC 1182 was represented at this event by Dr. Martina Kapitza, member of the group of Prof. Dr. Ilka Parchmann from the Leibniz Institute for Science and Mathematics Education. At an exhibition stand and a panel interview, Dr. Kapitza, along with the colleagues from the Kieler Forschungswerkstatt Felix Lohmann (demokratie:werk) and Frank Lüthjohann (nawi:werft), presented the concept of working as a teacher delegate at the university. A key focus was on introducing the educational materials as well as the digital poster and the eBook “Meet the Metaorganism” to many interested teachers who wanted to explore the content further and consider integrating it into their teaching. Furthermore, first ideas for the planned teacher training program were presented and discussed, receiving valuable feedback and insights from interested colleagues. “It was great to see how much interest the digital poster, the eBook and the other educational material generated. Many teachers were eager to learn more about Metaorganism research and how they could incorporate it into their classrooms,” says Martina Kapitza, teacher delegate at the CRC 1182 and teacher at the Gymnasium Kronwerk.

The event provided a great opportunity for engaging conversations with teachers, students, and other interested attendees. Many valuable contacts were made, and new ideas were exchanged on how to integrate scientific content into school. The discussions highlighted the strong interest in metaorganism research and its potential applications in teaching. We are looking forward continuing the dialogue and further developing new ideas on how to bring the Metaorganism to school.
