SymbNET PhD Summer School 23: Impressions
The EU-funded research consortium SymbNET recently held the summer school for PhD students interested in host-microbe symbioses at the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência in Portugal. The annual event is designed for PhD students to acquire an in depth understanding of the field from diverse perspectives through the interaction with experts in this research area. The two week-course with 20 lecturers and 35 PhD students was organized by SymbNET. It was hosted by the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência (FCG-IGC), and co-organized by the Católica Biomedical Research Centre, the Origin and Functions of Metaorganisms Collaborative Research Centre 1182 (CRC 1182), and the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR).

The winner of this year’s CRC 1182 poster prize (500 €): Marleny Garcia Lozano from Hassan Salem’s lab at the MPI in Tübingen.
