Interactive learning app "Meet the Metaorganism"

Building upon the “Digital Meta”-format from the 1st funding phase, this project now conceptualized, designed and implemented the interactive learning app Meet the Metaorganism. The overarching goal was the development and implementation of a digital learning concept for flexible, cross-institutional use in the research-based, academic education of students. The interactive learning app “Meet the Metaorganism” introduces and teaches fundamental biological key concepts using the metaorganism as central case study. It aims to set new standards in digital knowledge acquisition and higher education. In this subproject, on the one hand, unique interactive visualizations were developed and implemented to illustrate various interconnected biological processes, concepts and underlying principles in the metaorganism.

The app presents them in an accessible, modern and easily comprehensible format to students. On the other hand, the visualizations are compiled in integrative learning modules, which take up current didactic concepts for knowledge transfer (e.g. flipped classroom) and allow a flexible use in bachelor as well as master courses of different faculties.
